The world of Arindal is inhabited by a great variety of monsters. There are small scared animals that try to escape from you like the Ona-Chigger and large Dragons that will try to roast you with their fiery breath. We'll list a few of the most common monsters here. More and detailed information is available on one of the various Arindal fan-sites (see the links).
The Large Vermine Vermine come in many kinds and sizes. The regular large vermine can already be a real problem for the young wanderer in Arindal. Vermin are fast and agressive, and will chase you through areas in order to get you. Unlike the small vermine, large vermin are rarely seen indoors but live in forests and fields. With the right training you will be able to get a few coins for their fur sometimes.
The Myrm The Myrm are the giant mutations of the regular ants. They live in dark underground tunnels, which can be as complex as a labyrinth. The deeper you penetrate their tunnels the harder they get. Deep inside there usually lives a Queen-Myrm, surrounded by her guards, the Nobles and Royals. The Myrm have various races. There is of course the plain Myrm, found close to town. Their nest is a popular hunting ground for the your arrivals who are starting to feel strong enough to plunge themselves into the more daring adventures then vermine-dens and rathuts. Per species there are usually a couple of small kinds of Myrm, which look for food or fallen prey. A variety of soldiers take care of protection of the working class, and the Nobles and Royals are the usual protectors of the Queen. Deeper in the lands, there are FireMyrm, a fierce mutation. Rumours talk about RockMyrm and IceMyrm, but reports about them are scarce.
Summer Artak Cougar This type of cougar can occasionally be found close to town, although they are sighted nearly everywhere in the lands. This type of cougar can be especially dangerous for the young adventurer due to there close proximity to town. Whole groups of young adventurers have been know to have been slaughtered within seconds just a few steps away from the safety of town. Although it's fur can be a rewarding treasure, the young Ariloner is advised to run away as fast as possible at the mere sight of this soft-pawed killer.
Orga The Orga are a tribe that lives in a large amount of settlements throughout the lands. Their society looks rather primitive and they seem to live mainly from hunting and trading. Although particularly the fighting class of the Orga aren't very talkative, their magic-users and leaders have been known to speak the common language quite well, and they are not to be underestimated. Orga Mages and Orga Warlocks can be disastrous. Actually there is much to be learned still about the Orga. Until now the larger settlements of the Orga's haven't been discovered yet. There haven't been many invasions, or troubles with the Orga's although there are rumours that Merown the Mage has making some kind of deal with the Orga, giving them the power of Lightning in exchange for their services. We have got reports of a great variety of Orga. The regular Orga, the Warrior, the Berserker, the Rage, the Fury and there have even been sightings of IceOrga. It seems the species can easily adapt to their surroundings, and it is to be expected that we find more dangerous types in the future.
Drakes Rare, but still frequent sightings of Drakes proof that this once mythological creature truly has awakened in our world, and is at least as furious as the tales tell us. Forest drakes fear no one, and wipe out hunting parties of experienced groups, baking their fallen corpses with fireballs. Even when surrounded drakes can fight them free, thanks to their skin which defends them so well. Due to their flying abilities Drakes often fly away when in trouble, leaving the brave hunters behind with their hands empty, but a story richer.
Wendies Wendies are rather intelligent, apelike creatures. They live in large groups, and are intelligent enough to use tools in combat and everyday life. Wendies can use surprising tactics, jumping from hidden caves when you least expect it. There are several species of Wendeckas (their official name) but there have been too little reports about them to have a clear list of them. Stories mention 'Nightwendies', 'StoneWendies' and there has been a report of a Giant Wendie sighting by two Urdar brothers named King and Kong. This story has not been proven so far though, and is doubted by local scientists and the costumers of the pub where King and Kong usually can be found.
Tree Giants As we all know, it is not only the fauna which can be dangerous. Several types of flora have been negatively affected by the waves of uncontrolled magic during the disasters. One of the most dangerous types are the so called tree-giants. These living trees are as tough as they look, and their attacks can knock you over in one single blow. Their high balance makes them an opponent that should be taken down with good tactics and well structured hunting groups.
Wasps We all know wasps. Wasps are the nightmare of Healers and Mages. While a moderately experienced Fighter can easily fight them off, their colleagues often get surrounded by the fast winged horrors and are quickly stung until the bitter end. Be careful when you see a wasp; if you see one, there are more. And if there are more wasps, you're in trouble.
Slugs Slugs are slow. That is one of the best things you can tell about them. Even the most weakest of slugs take a long time to kill, hits hard en are a pain. In areas further away Ariloners have found giant slugs, poisonous slugs, electrical slugs and carrion-slugs. Slugs are disgusting and vile, best is to avoid them.
Pirates The west side of the island is pirate-territory. While the lower ranks of the pirates are peanuts for a small group of adventurers, their leaders deep inside their hideout are highly skilled murderers, trained to slay whole villages. They offer a great source of money and experience when fighting them, but they can relentlessly strike back, and will not forget easily. The monument of Catena is a sad reminder of what can happen when the pirates get out of control.
Undead There is a great variety of undine, and every single one of them is smelly and deadly. S'pooks, hooded corpses, detached spirits, shambling corpses, they all roam the haunted places of the lands. Many of them found in deeper caves or dungeons carry horrible curses with them, causing your flesh to rot from your body, or melt away. The undead should be approached only by the experienced groups who know what they are dealing with. They are not in for a trick or treat joke.
T'rool The T'rool are a semi intelligent race living in mostly underground locations. The common T'rool possesses a basic intelligence, and often can communicate quite understandable. They live in tribes, and in those tribes there is a strict hierarchy. Between tribes a strong rivalry can be observed, although there have been occasions where their leaders managed to join forces and armies. T'rools are known to have a Mage using class, and can be surprisingly cunning.
