Aprils Update!
Wednesday, 04 April 2007
ImageDear players,

I know what you are thinking. "Again a newspage-update? We barely recovered from the last one. We cannot possibly deal with such a regular flood of vital information". Let's just say that we are making a new effort to place news, rumours and various other items ons this very newspage! So, keep your browsers aimed!

After finally curing the dying forest, by destroying Merown's lab deep inside the Vermine Tree, the healing Salusfruit can now be found in the forest west of town. A big follow up adventure was the assault on Merowns Towers, where new tactics were needed to make it to the top level to get the 4 elemental stones. Finally everyone could assault Merown's Headquarters. Riddles drove good Mages insane, Fighters drove hords of ugly monsters to their gruesomely bloody ends and Healers drove their Healcrystals to the brink of exhaustion. The top level has not been reached yet ....

And what's Ankh's story? Who is looking for whom, and where? We'll see the coming weeks.

New Orgawoods were discovered, and Ariloners died where no Ariloner had died before. Brave Ariloners finally made it to the 2nd level of Ibendeel's haunted castle and explored a part of the Canyon. The portal to Terasia can be used now. Icemyrms and dragons fear for their lives, because their treasure is needed for the advanced library. Gorillas are still waiting on the Niamph Plateaus.

In a blackjack tournament someone won 2260 coins! Hero Days III will start soon, and the participating teams are diligently practising their skills. Those who missed the Hero Days preparation Fightrobics class will surely have a disadvantage.

  • By now you will have discovered the new /show options, where the object you are showing rotates around your character, for all to see. "I show you mine if you show me yours" is now truly visual. Hurray!
  • Also something changed with the chains. For magechains another picture was added, but a small miscommunication on our side messed that up. This will be fixed soon!
  • Healers will now be able to locate fallens, with the right item and the right training of course...
  • New traders in the Market.
  • New fur colors for Kyttyns.
  • Preparations for Hero Days III ;new areas & items.
  • New areas. An anonymous source swears he has spotted Wyrms!
  • 3rd circle fighter and healer belt available.
Internally we have tested a great new area. The 'Capture The Flag' fields. Soon we will add a first version of this to the world, so we can detect if there are any bugs left. We had great fun in testing this. Players divide up in a red and a blue team and must try to find the flag of the other team, and bring it to their tower. When they manage that, they score a point. Like in the arena, you can attack each other. When you fall, you are teleported to the startcave, and you can re-enter the game again to help your team. It is fun, you will see. If you thought you saw chaos, you will now experience true disorder. Go and find Lletya and Ifeen!

Which brings me to the quote of the day:% 4/1/07 8:41:29p Splash yells, "die gruppe is total uncoordiniert im moment"

Currently we are working on a variety of projects. You noticed how Bards have entered the game, and that instrument making is now on its way. Mages have witnessed some changes, like the teleport-staffs. Some circle tests were added, the one for the mages is still under construction. Pathfinding and Clans will be implemented soon.

Perhaps less noticeable where smaller projects which are paving the way for other new things. It is hard telling what and when, because sometimes we switch priorities depending on the needs in the world, and sometimes we suddenly have less time we can spend in developing. Remember that all GMs have a real life too, just like you ;)

Until next time,
Team Arindal

First Bard Audition!
Thursday, 04 January 2007
ImageHello Ariloners,

after a long illness (thanks for caring about it), I think I will soon be able to organize the first...

... ARINDAL BARD AUDITIONS!

Date : wednesday 17th january 2007, 8 pm GMT

Judges will be Resol, Mido and myself, Lasifa.

The requirements to become Bard are simple : in short, convince us that you can write nice music!

Compose three (3) songs (if you have more, select your 3 best)

Songs must be composed for any of the instruments existing and available (see downstairs in Music hall)

Style of music is free, but try to compose in a way that fits the world of Arindal (avoid songs that sound exactly like a 12-bar blues, a tango, a rock etc, try to compose music evoking moods, events or places in Arindal, like a happy wedding, an exciting hunt, a beer party, a sad Elithren tale, deep forests, desolated plains, snowy mountains, crowded town centre... there are plenty of things to express with music!

Songs must be your original creation. Of course it's difficult not to get inspired by others' music, but please try to be creative. Don't copy blatantly somebody else's work and try to get credit for it!
The advantages of becoming a Bard:

You can get instruments crafted, and own them.
You can play almost anywhere (not just in Music hall)
You can be a judge during auditions and eventually, get involved in decisions for the Bard guild.
Feel free to ask questions in the board, I will try to answer as best as I can.

Yours Lasifa

Special Character Contest
Friday, 02 June 2006
ImageHello Arindal players!

We would like to offer you a small contest!
The subject of the contest is : write a short project for a special character !

A special character is someone like those played by GMs, like Patal, Hanashi, Durin Stonemaster, Merown, Frisko, etc. But we are not asking you to imagine the new super-villain! It can be simple roles like a town animal, a stranger with a different culture (see the pages about races for inspiration), a mysterious old woman, a cursed ghost, a smart orga, a half-azcatl half-myrm... can't give too many example, we are curious about YOUR ideas!

The prize of this contest is, of course, to play yourself the special character from your project!
As you can guess, we will probably not select projects like being a super-wizard with every possible power... we are more interested in what you can role-play with the minimum tools -- like a different look and a few special capabilities.

Some rules for this contest :

Send us a short mail describing the character you want to play, his/her background, and what abilities s/he would need.

You can send more than one character idea. But only one (1) character will be awarded. Advice: We will probably favor quality over quantity.

Write in english if possible. Use your favorite language if it really needs to be subtle.

Don't tell others about your idea, even to your best friends! We will be very strict about that. When the winner is chosen, nobody must know, or be able to guess WHO is playing the special character.

The winner gets access to a special character on a separate account. It means that in theory you can interact with your own characters, but don't try to use it to cheat and help or favor them, we will not like this.

All actions will be logged, and we will be strict about cheaters, snerts, rude people, etc. In doubt, we will not take chances of letting you misbehave. Note that this does not mean you can't be an evil character, it means "Don't be an ass". And yes it is very different.

We reserve the right to modify or cancel the special character at any time, for any reason we see fit. Disclosing the character's identity is a very likely reason for cancellation! Don't say you were not warned.

We may also put some limits to stories you can create, especially if they risk spoiling or disrupting existing ones we have.

If it wasn't clear yet, this is about role-playing. We are not giving away a nice costume if you only plan to gain ranks like crazy! You should seek no personal gains in this contest, just the possibility to play differently and entertain others.

If the experiment is positive, we will offer more special characters to play. So even if you don't win now, keep your project secret in case it's the next best one!

Also if the experiment is positive, and the character proves interesting and trustworthy, he or she may gain more items / capabilities and... live a long time

The deadline for submissions is 11th june. Keep an eye on announcements in case we realize we need to change the rules.
